A mobile PCM thermal storage unit
transports thermal energy (waste heat or process heat) using phase change materials (PCMs).
It stores heat through changes in its state of aggregation, achieving 2 to 4 times the capacity of conventional water tanks while maintaining compact dimensions. This system can be transported on a truck using a swap body system.

Key operating principles & details

The principle (latent heat): Storage media such as paraffins or salt hydrates melt at specific temperatures, absorbing a large amount of heat in the process. When solidifying, this energy is released exactly at that temperature level.

Capacity & efficiency:

Since the energy (phase change) is stored without a noticeable temperature increase, the tanks have a significantly greater range. A modern mobile PCM storage unit typically holds storage volumes of several megawatt-hours (MWh).

Areas of application:

Perfect for supplying hospitals, schools, or swimming pools with district heating, or for residential complexes. The container can, for example, be fully charged at a biogas plant with excess heat and then transported to the point of use to release the heat.
Ideal for biogas plant operators or wood gas CHP plant operators, industry, etc., where process heat is available free of charge.
