DESCRIPTION
Horizontal drum chipper, engineered and built for maximum performance and reliability. This heavy-duty, robust machine is suited for the most demanding conditions and is ideal for processing all types of waste wood materials.

The Varli VDC-1600 drum chipper features a large infeed opening, making it highly capable of processing waste wood material, logs, and wood bundles (diameters over 700 mm can be easily accommodated).

The VDC-1600 can achieve outputs of approximately 100,000 kg per hour of high-quality pulp mill chips or finer fractions suitable for biofuel production. The chipper can also deliver coarser fractions, producing chips up to 200 mm in length (depending on configuration).

Built with a heavy-duty frame, the chipper features over-sized, self-aligning bearings housed in steel casings, firmly secured to the chipper’s side structure for long service life and reliable operation.

Equipped with 14 feed rollers fitted with special, wear-resistant, surface-hardened teeth, the VDC-1600 provides secure feed and optimised material throughput.

The chipper comes standard with drum-mounted cutting tools made from Hardox, along with replaceable wear plates.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The VDC-series is designed to produce wood chips from logs or bark bundles.

Material is horizontally fed by vibrating chute into free-floating feed rollers, which automatically adjust to the material’s height.

The feed rollers securely grip and transport the material into a high-speed rotating drum armed with solid knives, fixed with centrifugal wedges—fostering durability, preventing knife damage, and minimizing downtime during tool changes. The rotor knives are easily accessible and can be re-sharpened multiple times.

Key features include an adjustable stator knife, hydraulic hood, and hydraulic device for stator knife exchange.
